What Are Good Activities for My Plastic Surgery Recovery?

Model

2 Minute Read:

After undergoing plastic surgery, such as breast augmentation surgery, liposuction surgery, or tummy tuck surgery, you may not initially feel like doing anything more than taking your medication and sleeping for as long as you can.

While you are not advised to participate in any strenuous activities while you are recovering, you also don’t want to remain stagnant, as this can put you at risk for post-surgical complications like blood clots.

It is often difficult to determine the correct balance between too little and too much activity, and truthfully, this level varies from patient to patient, depending on the type of procedure(s) you undergo and how fast you heal.

Whether your downtime is one week or six, there are several at-home activities you can participate in to keep you occupied while recovering from your surgery. Women relaxing at home as one should after a plastic surgery procedure.

What Can I Do While Recovering?

Read a Book or Binge a Show

Resting is an essential part of the recovery process—but resting doesn’t only mean sleep. Instead, this would be an excellent time to grab a book you’ve always wanted to read. For most, having the time to sit down and commit to a good book in their normal life is out of the realm of possibility—so why not enjoy the extra time while you have it.

If you aren’t much of a reader, you can always stream a television show or binge-watch your favorite movies.

Start a New Project

With all the responsibilities in life, you probably don’t have time to work on any extra “you” projects. Maybe you worked halfway through a scrapbook but never had the time to finish it. Or perhaps you’ve always wanted to learn a new language but could never find the time.

Alternatively, coloring or painting are great ways to stay relaxed and occupied. There are plenty of coloring books for adults you can purchase before undergoing your surgery.

This is your opportunity to start or finish working on any projects.

Light Exercise

Even though you are not allowed to do any vigorous activities, you can and should do some light exercise, such as walking and non-strenuous stretching. These exercises will help you stay active while promoting blood circulation, which can aid in your healing process.

Focus on Your Diet

Relaxing should be the main focus of your recovery; however, it is not enough to ensure that you heal correctly. Eating a nutritious diet and drinking plenty of water will help ensure you have a smooth recovery.
