KYBELLA® is comprised of deoxycholic acid, a substance that directly targets fat cells. When KYBELLA® is injected into the fatty area beneath the chin, it breaks down the fat cells so that they can be absorbed into the body. Over the following four to six weeks, the lymphatic system flushes these destroyed fat cells out of the body. The deoxycholic acid from KYBELLA® treatment stays in the submental region to prevent more fat from accumulating beneath the chin.

After KYBELLA® injections, there is no downtime. Possible side effects include temporary swelling, redness, discomfort, bruising, and numbness. Results take a few weeks to become noticeable, as it takes time for the deoxycholic acid to break down the fat cells. As the body excretes the fat cells over the following four to six weeks, results will continue to improve. Patients may need several treatment sessions to achieve their desired results; however, no additional treatments are necessary once the desired aesthetic has been met.
