Have you heard of Dysport®? If you haven’t, that’s okay — it’s not nearly as popular as its counterpart, BOTOX® Cosmetic. But that doesn’t mean that it isn’t a valuable and effective treatment option for your aesthetic concerns.
Dysport® is a neurotoxin that helps to reduce expression-causing lines and wrinkles around the brow and forehead area and helps women and men achieve more youthful, rejuvenated appearances.
What Is Dysport®?
Dysport® is a muscle-paralyzing injectable that relaxes the muscles that cause frown lines between the eyebrows and wrinkles across the forehead, particularly dynamic lines caused by repeated facial expressions. The product is an alternative to BOTOX® Cosmetic and has been around since 2009, when it was approved by the FDA.
Since then, Dysport® has gained popularity among patients and doctors alike because it is more cost-effective than BOTOX® Cosmetic, leading to higher treatment frequency and improved patient satisfaction.
What Is the Difference Between BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport®?
Dysport® works similarly to BOTOX® Cosmetic, with the same areas of use, safety profile, and cosmetic effect. Both work by blocking chemical signals (instructing muscles to contract) and relaxing muscles to smooth out and soften lines caused by repetitive facial movements.
The main difference between these two procedures is their consistency. Dysport® is much more diluted than BOTOX® Cosmetic; therefore, it spreads more easily, making it a better treatment for larger areas such as the forehead and brow area.
You can often treat a larger area with fewer injections via Dysport® than with BOTOX® Cosmetic.
Which Areas Are Dysport® Used To Treat?
Dysport® was first approved by the FDA in 2009 to reduce the appearance of glabellar lines (frown lines between the eyebrows) and has since been found to treat a host of other cosmetic concerns, like:
- Forehead lines
- Crow’s feet
- Smile lines
- Glabellar lines
- Neckbands
How Fast Does Dysport® Wear Off?
Dysport® works faster than BOTOX®, and most patients can start seeing changes in as little as two days. The effects of Dysport® can last up to four months before repeat injections are necessary, although the exact length of time the results last varies from person to person.
How Long Does a Dysport® Procedure Take?
Dysport® is administered as a simple office procedure by a trained injector. The procedure takes approximately 10 minutes, with most patients describing only mild discomfort during injection.
Within three to seven days, you will notice that your frown lines are dramatically softened, and facial expression lines are significantly reduced in intensity.
