Will I Be Cold During My CoolSculpting® Procedure?

Model

3 Minute Read:

CoolSculpting® has become a well-known and well-advertised option for non-surgical fat reduction. Given the procedure’s name, you can speculate a lot about it: it sculpts the body using “cool” temperatures.

But, how “cool” are those temperatures? And, is it cool or flat-out cold?

What Is CoolSculpting®?

CoolSculpting® is a non-surgical way of getting rid of unwanted body fat. It helps eliminate excess fat and love handles by freezing the fat cells, causing them irreparable damage.

How Does Fat Freezing Work?

Cryolipolysis (fat freezing) has been around for years and was discovered in one of the most unique ways. Scientists found that children who ate a large number of popsicles actually formed dimples in their cheeks due to fat loss.

This caused scientists to begin studying the correlation between cold temperatures and fat cells. What they found was that fat cells were very susceptible to damage when in contact with cold temperatures. This is very different from healthy, non-fat cells, which do not seem to have the same problem with cold.

Thus, the basis behind CoolSculpting® was discovered.

What Can I Expect From CoolSculpting®? How Cold Does It Get?

During your treatment, CoolSculpting® paddles are secured to the treatment area, and the process begins.

The applicators emit cold temperatures that gradually cool the target area (areas with significant fat cells) to temperatures between 30.2 and 39.2 degrees Fahrenheit.

As you can imagine, these temperatures will feel far different than your usual Tampa weather conditions. Fortunately, because the treatment is so cold, the target area will become numb within just a few minutes.

The feeling is similar to when you have to apply ice to an injury. It’s cold at first, but your body adjusts. And with the results possible with CoolSculpting®, the slight chill is definitely worth it.

How Should I Prepare for CoolSculpting®?

If you plan to have a CoolSculpting® procedure, schedule a consultation with a cosmetic surgeon today. The doctor will discuss areas of your body where you want to eliminate fat.

On the day of the treatment, try to relax: the process is non-invasive after all. You may feel slight discomfort but shouldn’t feel any pain. It is best to wear loose-fitting clothes which can be easily removed for treatment.

Will I Need Time to Recover After CoolSculpting®?

Most CoolSculpting® patients carry on with their normal activities and even return to work straight after treatment.

Some patients experience minor side effects, such as redness, swelling, and bruising. You may also feel a slight tingling or stinging sensation, and the skin may be sensitive to the touch for a couple of days.

In some cases, numbness can last for a few weeks.
