Why Should a Neck Lift Be Combined With a Facelift?

One of the most undesirable effects of age is a tired and worn-down appearance. This includes wrinkles, fine lines, skin laxity, and sunken facial features.

Unfortunately, these cosmetic issues are a natural part of aging and can begin in women and men as early as their 30s. Luckily, a facelift can revitalize your face and help you look years younger.

However, not addressing the neck with the face risks creating an unbalanced appearance. Below, we’ll explore facelift and neck lift surgeries to show why these procedures should be combined.

What Is a Facelift?

Facelift surgery is one of the most transformational cosmetic procedures available. This is largely because the face is the most visible part of the body, which is why signs of age on the face can cause people to feel self-conscious and embarrassed.

A facelift corrects cosmetic concerns on the lower and midface.

With this procedure, your cosmetic surgeon will make incisions along the sides of your face to reposition facial tissue. Next, loose skin is surgically removed, and your plastic surgeon will redrape the remaining skin to get rid of any skin creases before closing the incisions.

What Is a Neck Lift?

Neck lift surgery is used to erase skin laxity and lines on the neck. This procedure can help you look much younger and create a balanced appearance.

With a neck lift, your surgeon will make incisions within the hairline (near the sideburn). These incisions will continue down the profile of your face, behind your ear, and finish in your posterior hairline.

Through these incisions, tissue is manipulated to create a smoother and more contoured appearance. Liposuction surgery may be used to remove any stubborn subcutaneous fat beneath the chin.

What Are the Benefits of Combining These Procedures?

When performed as a standalone procedure, facelift surgery offers stunning results, including helping you look years younger. Along with removing sagging skin and tightening the remaining skin, a facelift can address specific concerns, including the presence of jowls. However, correcting your aged face but not your aged neck can result in an unbalanced and unnatural appearance.

Because of this, a neck lift is almost always performed during a full facelift.

Combining a neck lift with your facelift can achieve harmonious results that complement one another. A neck lift can also address specific concerns, including a double chin, turkey neck, and neck banding. The best part about undergoing a combination facial procedure is that you can look forward to feeling more secure and confident with your appearance, which can help you live a happier and more fulfilling life.

What Other Procedures Can Be Combined With a Facelift and Neck Lift?

While facelift surgery and neck lift surgery can offer you a stunning transformation, these procedures only focus on the lower and middle portions of the face (from the neck to the cheeks), leaving the upper third (around the eyes and forehead) untreated.

Because of this, many patients include blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) and/or brow lift surgery (also known as a forehead lift) to smooth the skin and get rid of skin laxity and creases on the upper face.

At your consultation, you can discuss these other procedures with your doctor, who will be able to determine if you are a candidate for blepharoplasty or a brow lift.
