Plastic surgery is no longer a trend reserved for the Hollywood elite or women looking for more help with their signs of aging.

The cosmetic world for men is changing. More men are going under the knife for cosmetic enhancements, hoping to look more comfortable, confident, and young. Fortunately, plastic surgery for men is now becoming destigmatized as surgical and non-surgical treatments are being tailored to more suitably address men’s aesthetic needs.

Why Is Plastic Surgery for Men Less Taboo?

As the decades go by, plastic surgery for men has become more common and less criticized. The destigmatization of these treatments is most likely due to elements of today’s music, fashion, and cinematic cultures that have trickled into our daily lives.

These influences are still felt for men who aren’t paying attention to the world of entertainment. Social media continues to shift online markets and challenge men to make their physical appearance just as appealing and approachable as their online business.

With this development, many aesthetic treatments have become more appealing to the modern man wanting to contend with his more youthful counterparts.

How Are Surgical Treatments Adjusted to Men’s Cosmetic Needs?

Thanks to cosmetic treatment advancements, middle-aged men now have the opportunity to enjoy their youthful looks of yesteryear. For example, body contouring treatments, such as tummy tuck surgery, can now correct the abdomen in a way that accentuates masculine features.

Many surgeons have used the term “abdominal etching” to describe this athletic and chiseled version of abdominoplasty that many men have found successful. In fact, these procedures have become so popular that the American Society of Plastic Surgeons reported a 98 percent increase in abdominoplasty for males over the past two decades.

How Are Non-Surgical Treatments Adjusted to Men’s Cosmetic Needs?

Surgical procedures aren’t the only treatments in plastic surgery that have become more popular among men. As more surgeons developed male-oriented techniques, men who once had nowhere to go for small cosmetic corrections can now receive effective non-surgical treatments for their face and body.

Non-invasive and non-surgical cosmetic treatments such as Restylane® and JUVÉDERM® or IPL laser treatment take much credit for introducing the male demographic to the world of cosmetic enhancements.

Data from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons shows that soft tissue fillers have increased by 99 percent since 2000. Meanwhile, laser skin resurfacing has increased by 252 percent since 2000. By accommodating the masculine ideals of youth that older men desire, aesthetic specialists and surgeons have the opportunity to serve more patients who aren’t entirely ready for the invasive and time-intensive nature of actual surgeries.
