Do you have any unanswered questions about rhinoplasty? Read on to learn more about nose surgery.

What is rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a surgery that enhances the appearance and function of the nose. Rhinoplasty can:

  • Rhinoplasty Before and After PhotosReduce the size and width of the nose
  • Narrow or widen the nostrils
  • Adjust the angle of the nose
  • Smooth out the nasal bridge
  • Change the shape or size of the nasal tip
  • Straighten the nasal septum to improve breathing

Rhinoplasty can enhance your nose in subtle yet significant ways and bring it into better harmony with your face.

Are there any alternatives to nose surgery?

Some surgeons use fillers as an alternative to nose surgery, but the results are limited and temporary. All that fillers can really do is fill in depressions on the nasal bridge or make minor adjustments to the appearance of the nasal tip. Using fillers in the nose is also risky and cannot accomplish nearly as much as nose surgery. Rhinoplasty is the only permanent and effective solution for people who want to enhance their nose.

At what age can I get nose surgery?

To ensure that you are physically and emotionally mature for nose surgery, you should be at least 13 to 15 years old. Your face should be fully grown, and your expectations should be realistic.

Do I have to reschedule my nose surgery if I have a cold?

Unfortunately, yes. Swelling and infections can complicate your procedure, so you will need to reschedule your surgery until you are recovered.

Will I have scars?

Many rhinoplasties can be performed with incisions hidden inside the nose. However, some may require an open surgical approach that places a small incision at the base of the narrow bridge of tissue that separates the nostrils. This may leave a minor and inconspicuous scar that will fade over time.

When will I see my final results?

Your nose will look normal within just a few weeks after surgery, but you may continue to observe subtle changes for up to one year after surgery.

How long is recovery?

Most people are generally recovered and ready to return to their typical activities after about one week. However, swelling will take longer to subside and may affect your nasal breathing, taste, and smell for several weeks.

When can I exercise after rhinoplasty?

You should wait at least three to six weeks after rhinoplasty before exercising, especially before swimming or participating in strenuous sports.

How long will my results last?

The results of rhinoplasty are permanent.

Should I get a nose job?

If you are unhappy with the appearance of your nose or if you suffer from impaired nasal breathing, nose surgery could help you.
