About Gynecomastia
Gynecomastia is the growth of enlarged breasts in men. This condition is quite common, with 60% of adolescent boys developing detectable gynecomastia by the age of 14. (2) Many patients also develop gynecomastia later in life. When gynecomastia persists into adulthood, it often becomes difficult to address on one’s own. The issue can be compounded by several factors, such as weight gain, hormone imbalance, medical conditions, or as a side effect of medication. (3)

Ideal Candidates
Ideal candidates for gynecomastia treatment in Tampa include men with enlarged breast tissue that will not respond to dieting, exercise, or medications.

During this consultation, we will meet with you to explain what gynecomastia treatment in Tampa entails and learn more about your medical history, concerns, and ideal results. An evaluation will also take place to examine the anatomy and condition of the chest and breast tissue.
Using this information, we will determine whether surgery is right for you and develop a personalized treatment plan. Pre-operative and post-operative instructions will be provided to each patient, as well as an all-inclusive price quote. Preparation
Each patient will receive a set of pre-operative instructions to help them prepare for their procedure. Patients may need to undergo lab testing or imaging before their procedure to ensure they are physically ready for gynecomastia treatment. Patients will need to avoid medications and supplements that contain blood-thinning properties. Transportation home from the procedure should be arranged, as well as any necessary time away from work or other social commitments. Medications and prescriptions should also be filled ahead of time.
Procedure
Upon arrival, each patient will be led to one of our surgical rooms where their skin will be cleansed and sanitized. Anesthesia will be administered to keep you comfortable throughout treatment. From there, the surgeon will start to address gynecomastia using either surgical intervention or liposuction, or both:
- Liposuction: The surgeon can use liposuction alone in cases where the breasts are primarily composed of fatty tissue. They will make a small incision in the chest and inject a tumescent solution. This solution is composed of a local anesthetic, epinephrine, and saline to help minimize bleeding, numb the treatment area, and swell the fat cells for easier removal. The surgeon will use a suctioning cannula to gently remove the fat, permanently removing the targeted deposits from the chest.
- Surgery: Surgical intervention is often employed on patients with denser breast tissue. This means that the breasts are primarily composed of glandular tissue rather than just fat. The surgeon will place a discreet incision around the lower portion of the areola before removing the excess breast tissue and sculpting a flatter chest.
These techniques can be combined if necessary to provide patients with optimal results.
The duration of each patient’s treatment can vary, depending on the extent of correction and the methods employed. The techniques used will be predetermined during each consultation. Recovery
Gynecomastia treatment is performed on an outpatient basis, meaning that patients are released home shortly after their procedure to continue healing at home. During this time, patients will need to wear a compression garment on the treatment area and take time away from work and other commitments. This garment is designed to help minimize swelling, as well as maintain the chest’s new shape. Swelling is temporary and will dissipate on its own. Any additional discomfort may also be managed using pain medications.
Patients may return to work when they feel comfortable. However, high-impact or physical activities should be avoided for several weeks. The surgeon will provide more detailed post-operative instructions during the consultation.
Results

Patients will be able to notice a difference in the appearance of their chest after their procedure, but the full results will become more apparent as they continue healing. A flatter, smoother, and more masculine chest can be enjoyed, as well as a more proportionate appearance. Men may also experience an improvement in their daily comfort as any irritation is alleviated, as well as a boost in self-confidence. The results of gynecomastia treatment are long-lasting, but should be paired with healthy lifestyle habits to maintain their effects.
Liposuction in Other Areas
Liposuction is a procedure that permanently removes fat that will not respond to traditional methods of weight loss from various parts of the body. While liposuction techniques can be performed during gynecomastia treatment, this procedure may also be performed on other parts of the body to create a slimmer and more toned appearance. Our team can perform liposuction on various areas of the upper, middle, and lower body to refine the contours of your body.
