Labiaplasty
Conveniently located to serve the areas of Tampa, FL

A labiaplasty, also known as a labia minora reduction, is a surgical procedure designed to enhance daily comfort and improve the size and shape of the labia minora, the inner vaginal lips. This procedure can be performed to improve both the functionality and appearance of the labia. Many women are naturally born with asymmetrical or elongated labia, which often leads to discomfort from tugging or twisting, as well as general dissatisfaction regarding their appearance. Labiaplasties have grown in popularity over the last several years, with over 10,000 procedures performed in 2023 alone. (1)

About Labiaplasty
Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that may be performed to enhance the appearance or function of the labia minora, or inner vaginal lips. Enlarged labia are primarily congenital, with labiaplasty sometimes being performed in younger women; however, the labia may also be altered from the effects of pregnancy, aging, and hormonal fluctuations. (2) Some women with large or long labia may feel uncomfortable with the appearance of their labia, or might suffer from physical discomfort, such as chafing when walking or wearing tighter-fitting clothes. At the PREMIERE Center for Cosmetic Surgery, our team of expert surgeons can employ a variety of surgical techniques and strategies to help patients restore their confidence and comfort.
Benefits of Labiaplasty
- Enhanced Aesthetics: Altering the balance and proportions of the labia can improve their visual appeal and aesthetic.
- Increased Daily Comfort: Reducing excess skin can help alleviate discomfort caused by chafing, twisting, or tugging during physical activities, such as running or intercourse.
- Improved Confidence: Many patients report feeling more confident and self-assured about their bodies after receiving a labiaplasty.
- Customizable Treatment: Each procedure is tailored specifically to the patient’s anatomy and personal desires, ensuring personalized results.

Suitable Candidates
Suitable candidates for labiaplasty typically include women experiencing daily discomfort or pain due to elongated or protruding labia. Women dissatisfied with the symmetry, shape, color, or overall appearance of their labia often find this procedure beneficial. (3) Patients struggling with hygiene, experiencing recurrent vaginal infections, or excess trapped moisture are also highly recommended for this procedure.
All candidates interested in labiaplasty should be in good overall health with realistic expectations as to what this procedure may accomplish. Patients should also be non-smokers or willing to quit until they are fully healed. The surgeon will determine each patient’s candidacy during their personal consultation.
Personal Consultation
Each patient at the PREMIERE Center for Cosmetic Surgery is asked to attend a personal consultation with their surgeon before undergoing their labiaplasty. This consultation is not only a chance for the surgeon to meet the patient, but also to ensure they are recommending the best treatment method for their goals. The surgeon will first ask questions regarding the patient’s current medications, medical history, concerns, and desired results. An examination may also be performed to evaluate anatomy and determine candidacy for labiaplasty.
From there, the surgeon will craft a treatment plan, personalizing certain aspects to maximize benefits. Preparation and recovery instructions will also be provided, as well as the written cost for the procedure. Patients should be prepared to converse openly about their concerns and goals, as this consultation is time dedicated to their specific procedure.

Preparation
The surgeon will provide a set of preparation instructions for each patient to help them properly prepare for their labiaplasty. Patients may be asked to temporarily refrain from the use of medications and supplements containing blood-thinning properties. Those who smoke will need to cease nicotine use several weeks before the procedure. Alcohol should also be avoided for several days before and after the procedure. Patients will need to take time away from work and arrange transportation home from their procedure. Following each instruction given by our experts will help facilitate a smooth recovery and the best possible outcome.
Procedure
Labiaplasty begins with the administration of local anesthesia so that the patient is comfortable throughout their procedure. The surgeon will then employ one of two surgical methods to help address the patient’s concerns: the trim technique or the wedge technique. The strategy used will be discussed and determined at each patient’s personal consultation.
- Trim Technique: The trim technique, also known as the edge method, consists of excising tissue from the outer edge of the vaginal lips. This technique is often performed on patients with concerns about discoloration or darkened skin.
- Wedge Technique: The wedge technique is a method often employed to reduce the size of the labia without augmenting or compromising the natural edges of the labia. The surgeon can perform this technique by removing a V-shaped wedge from the center of the vaginal lips, then suturing them together to create a neater appearance.
Your surgeon may perform additional treatments simultaneously, such as a labia majora reduction or clitoral hood reduction, for more cohesive results. The duration of each treatment can vary depending on the strategy being used and the scale of the procedure, but patients can expect their labiaplasty to last approximately one to two hours.
Recovery
Following their labiaplasty, patients will be released home to continue healing, as labiaplasties are performed as an outpatient procedure. Patients can expect bruising and mild swelling in their genitalia, but these effects are temporary and will gradually subside. Patients can often return to work within a week, but are asked to avoid physical activities or other strenuous tasks for several weeks. Engaging in sexual activity, as well as the use of tampons, should also be avoided until fully healed or approved by a member of our team.
Showers should be avoided for at least 48 hours after the appointment, and swimming or other forms of submersion should be abstained from for at least a week. The surgeon will provide and discuss further recovery instructions during a personal consultation.
Results

After any residual swelling dissipates, patients will be able to enjoy the appearance of their newly shortened labia, as well as an improvement in their daily comfort. Women who had previously experienced recurrent infections may experience improved hygiene and greater ease with personal cleaning. Additionally, patients with more active lifestyles can enjoy activities such as cycling or running without any irritation or discomfort. Women often report an improvement in self-esteem, leading to an enhancement in their overall confidence, as labiaplasties have a patient satisfaction rate exceeding 90% (2), especially when performed by qualified experts like our team.
Corresponding Procedures
Many procedures can be performed alongside a labiaplasty to achieve comprehensive body transformations. The most popular procedures to pair include liposuction and laser hair removal.
- Liposuction: Liposuction is a procedure designed to eliminate stubborn deposits of fat from around the body. The surgeon will first inject the area with a tumescent solution designed to help swell and loosen the fat cells. The fat will then be gently suctioned out using a thin tube called a cannula. The surgeon can then purify this fat and reinject it into the body to enhance other features, such as the outer vaginal lips, if desired.
- Laser Hair Removal: Laser hair removal is a treatment that utilizes bursts of intense light energy to remove unattractive hair while simultaneously inhibiting any regrowth. This procedure can be performed on a variety of places, including the face, arms, legs, back, chest, and more. Laser hair removal is frequently paired with a labiaplasty.
