Breast implants aren’t all designed to give you a “fake” or “unusually buxom” appearance. Some implants, when combined with the proper body type and surgical technique, can provide natural-looking enhancement. Implant material, placement, sizing, shape, and profile, as well as your anatomy, are all factors in achieving natural-looking results with breast augmentation.
Gummy bear implants and silicone implants tend to look and feel more natural than saline because they are filled with cohesive silicone gel. These two implant types are also less likely to ripple.
Placing the implants beneath the pectoral muscles achieves a more natural look than placing the implants over the muscles. With under-the-muscle implant placement, the implants add the desired volume enhancement but the breast tissue remains prominent in look and feel.
Usually, the most natural-looking results are achieved with small or moderately sized implants. Overly large implants tend to look disproportionate, which is why many women are downsizing their breast implants. Women who have rare breast deformities with severely underdeveloped breasts are an exception to this rule, as larger implants may help them achieve a more natural appearance.
Many women can achieve natural-looking breast augmentation results with either round or anatomical implants. However, women with unusual breast tissue distribution may need shape correction, in which case anatomical implants can help. The amount and placement of natural breast tissue largely determine whether the shape of the implants will have much of an effect on how natural the results look.
Natural-looking results have as much to do with implant profile as with the chest wall and natural breast placement. Women with a wide chest wall or breasts that are naturally wide set will have more authentic-looking results with low profile implants. In contrast, women with a small frame or breasts that are close together will have more natural-looking results with moderate or high profile implants. A profile that is too high or too low for your body type could result in unnatural space between the breasts in the front or spilling of the breasts on the sides.
Chest Wall and Breast Anatomy
Your anatomy plays a major role in how natural your breast augmentation results look. High-profile implants may create a beautiful hourglass figure on a woman with naturally larger hips, but the same implants might look unnatural or awkward on a straight or rectangular body type. In another case, a woman with asymmetrical breasts may achieve more natural-looking results with implants of different sizes rather than identical implants for both breasts.
