When someone decides to lose weight, they are making a life-altering choice. Getting rid of unneeded fat is essential for a person who wants to look better and be healthier. What they don’t tell you about losing weight quickly is that it can leave you with a significant amount of loose, hanging skin. One area of the body that is most affected by weight loss is the arms. Considering that the arms are not easy to conceal, it isn’t surprising that many massive weight loss patients are annoyed by unsightly hanging arm skin. Brachioplasty, also known as arm lift surgery, is a procedure designed to surgically remove lax skin and excess fat from the upper arms.

The Benefits of Brachioplasty

  • Reduces excess, sagging arm skin
  • Tightens and smoothes the upper arms
  • Reduces localized fat deposits in the upper arm region

Slimmer, More Defined Arms

Brachioplasty is designed to correct thick upper arms due to excessive skin and tissue. Many people feel as if bulging arm skin creates a sloppy and unflattering appearance in the entire upper body. Once the excess skin and tissue are removed and the upper arm skin is smoothed out and shaped, patients can expect to achieve slimmer, more defined arms. They will notice the dramatic transformation the arms have created for the entire quality of the upper body.

More Clothing Options

Many patients have a hard time wearing certain clothing fashions due to drooping arm skin that makes it difficult for clothing to fit properly. Once skin and fat have been removed and the arms have been sculpted into a more favorable shape, patients can expect smaller arms that fit better under (or out of) clothing. They will achieve a look that is more flattering in fashions that are tight or designed to show off the arms.

Improved Overall Appearance

Most people notice that when they have cosmetic enhancement performed on a distinct area of the body, it helps to complement the rest of the body features. Brachioplasty can benefit the entire look of the physique. By improving the appearance of the upper arms, arm lift surgery can help a person to enhance their overall appearance.

Confidence

Whether the stress of heavy arms is causing discomfort for a person or making them steer away from exposing the arms, many patients gain an overall boost in confidence after undergoing brachioplasty. They can happily expose their arms without having to feel insecure about their upper body and are excited to show off their newly contoured, more flattering arms.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Model
  • Brachioplasty is a great procedure for patients who have lax skin in their upper arms that they would like to address. The best candidates are healthy, at or near their ideal body weight, and have realistic expectations about the surgery.

  • Brachioplasty is performed using a general anesthetic or intravenous sedation. Typically, an incision is made along the underside or back of the arm. Depending on the intensity of skin removal, the incision may be short or may extend from the underarm (axilla) to just above the elbow. The surgeon will remove excess fat and tissue before redraping the skin over the arms. Liposuction is often used in conjunction with brachioplasty for additional fat removal and to provide maximum contouring results. The procedure is performed in two to three hours on an outpatient basis.

  • The results achieved with brachioplasty are generally permanent; however, weight fluctuations can affect the results. For the best outcome, patients should follow a healthy lifestyle by incorporating a diet and exercise regimen.

  • The technique and surgery plan for each patient will vary, which will influence the price of the brachioplasty procedure. At PREMIERE Center for Cosmetic Surgery, we will further discuss the cost and details of your surgery during your consultation. Financing options are available to help make arm lift surgery more affordable.

  • Immediately following surgery, patients will notice the difference in their arms. They will see a significant reduction in skin and tissue as well as an improvement in the definition of their arms. However, there will be some initial swelling and bruising as well as some redness at the incision sites. Many patients are able to resume light activity and/or work after one week. Strenuous exercise should be avoided for several weeks.

  • Massive weight loss patients can develop excess skin in other areas besides the arms. These patients may choose to undergo multiple surgeries to achieve their body goals. Typically, brachioplasty is combined with other body contouring procedures such as abdominoplasty, lower body lift, and breast lift surgery.
